Vinayaki Chaturthi and Andal Jayanti: Religious importance and celebration
Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month in New Delhi is being celebrated as Vinayaki Chaturthi and Andal Jayanti. On this day, Sun God will remain in Cancer sign and the Moon will be in Leo zodiac till 12 noon.
Andal Jayanti is also known as Adi Puram. The birth anniversary of Goddess Andal is organized during this festival.
Andal Jayanti will be celebrated on Monday, July 28, this year. It falls on the day of Puram Nakshatra in Tamil month ‘Adi’.
- During the festival, a procession is taken out by placing the idols of Goddess Andal in a palanquin or chariot.
- It is believed that on the day of Andal Jayanti, if virgin girls worship with true heart, then they get the desired life partner.
On this day there is also a monthly Vinayaki Chaturthi which is considered as Vinayaki fast.
A special religious ritual is performed to start Vinayaki fast, in which bathing and special worship is done by retiring from daily karma.
Lord Ganesha is worshiped during the fast and special mantras are recited.
